RRD Twin Fin 82lt 2009

Just had 2 days of sailing on the Padstow side of Daymer Bay in shoulder high waves on the TwinFin 82 (used a 5.2m and 4.7m). Riding-wise that board is amazing - it just never seems to loose speed on bottom turns, so even in onshore waves (on the Daymer side) and with someone who's port tack riding isn't that great, I was able to maintain speed and hit the lip of the wave. There's a slight tendency to over do the top turn, but once you get the hang of that you can have fun by either going straight into a heli on the wave or get back up to speed on the wave really quickly. Backside riding felt great too - you can hit the wave even harder with the confidence that even if you over do it you can get back on the plane immediately. In cross-off conditions, slightly overpowered you don't feel like you're on an 82 litre board. My next board down is 66 litres and it doesn't feel like I need anything in between - the 82 feels small and nimble underfoot - probably more to do with the shape than the fins though. Jumping is fine too and board feels light and nimble in the air. It did take me one session to get used to driving through the front foot so much to get going and slightly for jumping, but it didn't take long to get over. I get the feeling this will be my most used board this year.
