Not Hot, not DEAD, Wind is Warned and Don't Forget!

Yep, that’s another week of wonderful Summer 2023 weather put away and we are once again heading into..  the Weekend!

If you were looking for long lazy days down at the beach, lapping up the Sun and cooling off with the odd swim, currently this is not the Place to Be and it’s not even the school holidays yet, so there could be worse to come! Even if you are not happy with it at the moment, you have to love our weather, as not even the Weather Forecasters can get their Heat Waves right!  At least we have wind with it, in fact we have so much coming this weekend that the Met have issued a Yellow Warning for Unseasonable Winds. I’m sure the film crews who have been in Ferry Road and at one of the beach residents Olde World Shoreham Bungalow Town bungalows today, to film part of a Roy Grace ITV 3 episode ( written by the Brighton Author Roy James) have loved trudging the set kit through the rain and wind! Not nice, so I guess it’s all a bit of A DEAD LOSS… moving on!

Thanks to those of you who have helped with snagging the odd fault with the new website (there were bound to be a few) and we are desperately trying to add shop stock as quickly as we can (let alone all of the kit that is available to order). As I mentioned before, if you don’t see what it is you are looking for, please do ask as it’s more than likely we will have it in here.. somewhere!
There are a fair number of Online deals for inflatable SUP boards at the moment (weather related..) and we are updating the new site as quickly as we can to Price Match, where and when we can (it’s a real Race to the Bottom!) but please do ask your ‘Local Shop for Local People’ if you’ve seen something you want elsewhere, as  you will of course get the same service and backup as you normally do but at the Online price! Wouldn’t it be nice if you could order the weather you want…

This week has proved to be another cracker for the High Wind lovers, as it has been small Sails, Kites and Wings for pretty much every session, which seems to be the trend now. It’s all or nothing!  Although we obviously love it, it’s not that helpful for those who started out in a wind sport last summer and were hoping to improve their skills during this summer or for the schools trying to teach the newcomers of 2023, so I do hope we get a period of Happy Sea Breeze afternoons at some point.. but it isn’t happening this weekend! If you have signed up for the Hit the Downs Mountain bike ride, which starts at the Adur Recreation ground this Sunday, make sure you have at least THREE Shredded Wheat for breakfast, as that headwind up on the Downs will be a right pain in the ‘legs’. At least you can look forward to when it’s ‘Behind You’!
I do hope they are not going down the slope from Chanctonbury to Wiston (once a fun path, now the width of a road) as that chalk will be like ICE if it’s wet. Talking of wet….

Don’t forget that next Weekend we have the Outrigger Canoe National Championships happening at Shoreham. It should be a good spectator sport, especially if you are on a SUP and can paddle out to see the teams close up (but not too close please!) The SYC are hosting it and they are running the Hawaiian Party Night in their superb clubhouse on the Saturday evening. Tickets were £20.00 but have now been reduced to £10.00, to get as many people in for the fun event as possible (if you bought at the original £20.00, contact Jon at the Outrigger Club and they will sort that out for you) . Tickets are available from EventBrite..click Here!
There is going to be a Fund Raising Auction for the club at some point during the weekend and if you were thinking of buying a Dry Suit for the coming Winter, we have donated a Pro Limit Nordic multisport Dry Suit in size 50/M, so get that wallet open and be ready to bid. Anyhow, that’s next weekend and we hope the forecast is a little nicer for them than this weekend’s, which is….

Here we go.. Saturday, we have Sou’Sou’West winds of 23kts kicking off the day with gusts of 32kts but by mid afternoon that will have increased to 28kts gusting 38kt and by early evening the crescendo arrives, with wind speeds of around 34kts gusting 44kts. As Alan from Orpington called and said this morning, “Is it ever under 30kts at Shoreham” ?!  Waves height is given as 2.8m for mid-afternoon on an 8 sec period.  I went to the beach after work on Wednesday eve to get out for a quick hour but the waves were so close together it looked like a ploughed field, which is probably why there was not a soul on the water.  Tide is High at 10.36hrs on a 5.3m, so Shoreham will be the place to be in the afternoon. Rain showers during the morning and early afternoon and then shown as dry after that. Temp is a stunning 17°C.  So, Saturday is looking exciting!

Sunday should be a little more ‘Alan like’, as although we start off the day with a Sou’West wind of 24kt gusting 30kt, by mid-afternoon we are down to 21kt gusting to a mere 28kt, so we will be under the 30kt Alan (I’m sure a lot of other people would like a nice summer sail as well). Rain fall is currently shown as ‘nil point’ and the air temp still around 16°C , which is something the MTB’s will be happy about.  High Tide is at 11.26hrs on a 5.5m.

And that is it for this week, apart from there is ‘quiet talk’ of changes taking place within one of the Big Brands but it is only whispers at the moment and we are awaiting official News!
I hope your weekend will be fun even if the unseasonable weather does not suit your plans and talking of plans..  WE are here until 5.30pm on Saturday and then back in for six more hours of fun on Sunday, at 10am.. if all goes to plan
Have a great weekend everyone!
