Another windy day, just like 8 years ago.

For my sins I have to admit that I would not have written this if it wasn’t for seeing Trevor Funnell at the beach this morning. Typically I was rushing to get a quick sail before work and would have rushed through the day without paying attention to the past, which in hindsight you really should.
It was eight years ago today that Trevor and a bunch of friends sailed off of Seaford beach to say farewell to his son Andy, who had very sadly been the victim of a hot June day and a cold English channel. On the 15th June Andy had rushed to the beach after work and his only mistake was to take a friends jet ski for a quick go, in just a pair of shorts. He didn’t quite make the first turn and fell off into the cold water, which was all it took to create the shock that basically prevents you from breathing. That was the last anyone saw of Andy, until he was found a week later.
Something’s should be left in the past, but Andy's is such a sad story that if just one person reads this and does not make the same mistake, then it will be worth the upset that thinking about the past can sometimes bring.
Our thoughts are with Andy's family and friends, and I am glad I rushed today, as I got to sail with Trevor.
